Films by Women

Below is a list of all the films directed by women that I’ve seen since I started this blog, with a rating and links to reviews where they exist, ordered by country and then alphabetically. I have also started a regular weekly focus on women filmmakers with my Women Filmmakers’ Wednesday series, which hopefully I will actually write something for and not allow to lapse, so follow that link to find out more.

I wanted to add an extra page for films directed by women not because the world needs another cishet white guy to be giving his opinion (hello!), but more because of the way that women still struggle for an equal footing with male directors within the film industry in all parts of the world and it’s worth highlighting and giving greater voice to their films. However, there are obviously other ways that women can contribute to filmmaking, and I have tags for films written by women and photographed by women, though creative input can come in many different forms and particularly also from producers, editors and actors in this most collaborative of industries.
